I didn’t expect to like Mexico. I went for the first time in 2003. My cat was dead, my job sucked, and one of those milestone birthdays was not far off. Mexico was close and offered a welcome distraction. I signed up for a language class and took my camera and a few rolls of Tri-X just in case.
Over the next year I got a new job, new cats, celebrated that birthday – and went back to Mexico. This time I took plenty of color film.
It’s hard to explain what keeps calling me back to Mexico. Beyond the light and the colors, I am drawn to the serendipitous juxtapositions that characterize the street life in every village and town.
