Tammy Picone Nohelty
Tammy has been an exhibiting photographic artist for over two decades. Since shifting focus from traditional black and white photography to alternative methods and digital imaging she had garnered three "Best of Show's", the "Samuel Chamberlain Award" and numerous "Awards of Excellence" at the Marblehead Festival of Arts and the Newburyport Annual Photography Exhibit, as well being featured in numerous private and corporate collections.
Tammy's professional artistic career started as a Photojournalist for the Beverly Times in the 1980's while completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography and design from Montserrat College of Art. Her commercial training often mixed with the experimental, blending photography & design with alternative photographic methods such as liquid light and photographic solvent transfers. It was with alternative mediums that she first received critical recognition in Fine Art Photography.
In recent works, Tammy has incorporated photography, computer design and mixed alternative mediums to create photography that defies traditional limitations. She had discovered a great sense of artistic freedom working with Polaroid® transfers, emulsions lifts and Time Zero manipulations. These particular mediums allow the ability to create painterly photographs which carry emotion and movement. The new technology and timeless alternative methods have allowed her to expand photographic creativity beyond that of traditional darkroom techniques.
Tammy's website (www.studiotwoandahalf.com) displays previous photographic series. The site also offers information on the photography courses in digital and alternative methods she teaches and a current exhibition schedule.
