“Horizontal Woman” is my attempt to depict, through a series of photographs and accompanying text, the “invisible geography” and hard-to-describe personal experience of living with chronic, intractable pain. The experiences and images are mine; the title and much of the text is from “Horizontal Woman: The Story of a Body in Exile,” by Suzanne E. Berger, Houghton Mifflin, 1996.
