Artist Statement

For the past few months, I have focused my work on 17th century graveyards. Tombstones are perhaps the only physical objects that directly connect the realms
of the living and the deceased, bridging the abysmal gap that lies between our fleeting present and the static reality of death.

While providing a link to a particular moment, headstones reveal the proceedings of time. They document the constantly changing conditions of the environment in which they have stood up for centuries. My pictures attempt to expose the history of their surfaces, and to capture the material presence of these symbols of absence.
