It is a blessing to live near the sea. The cadence of the sea upon the shore is the heartbeat of the earth. I find great comfort in the enduring presence of the sea, organic, remote, and constant. Yet, the unending movement of the water embellished by the nuance of reflected sky makes every moment unique.
To stand on the shore and observe the mystery of sea against sky brings me enormous pleasure. My time by the sea is both dynamic and deeply meditative. Through ocean waves, clouded skies and sun upon surf I glimpse the sacred.
Recording images on film, and now, digitally, has been the subtext of my life. As I make a photograph, I am holding my breath for 1/400th of a second, framing, seizing that one instant as time and life race on.
I watch water rising to a break point, halt, then rush to encounter the shore, I watch light shimmering on ocean waves. It is exhilarating and affirming to capture and hold still just on of those majestic moments.
