Artist's Statement

Word combined with image is the art form that inspires my imagination and calls to me as both writer and visual artist. The visual work is evoked from words that have emotional meaning; the words are evoked by images that convey a message – a story. When I take a picture, or manipulate a picture digitally, it is always with the intention that the result will enhance the meaning of the words to elicit a gut, intuitive response to the work - be it empathy, laughter, sadness or joy.

The themes I present are central to my life experience as a woman, lover, mother, friend and writer, looking at the past, growing into the present. I sometimes view certain topics such as elderly sex, dating and dealing with everyday life glitches humorously, as in the cartoon, “Getting It On – On The Internet.”
